With the year almost wrapped, we thought we’d get in touch and say thanks for becoming part of the makedo story. We have so many exciting things lined up for next year - ideas to share, things to learn and adventures to new places. So before 2010 makes present of the future, here goes…

Relaxing Giant
When faced with a vacant lot and its piles of discarded domestic material, Jim Darling put his own personal touch in to creating a new resident for the neighbourhood. With a little help from friends, he dragged all of the waste into one area to build a character who now rests in silent contemplation.
It is great to see creativity such as this emerging from the forgotten areas of Suburbia. Perhaps Jim Darling’s work will inspire others to add non-destructive moments of whimsy to the vacant land in their own towns and cities.

Boxing Day = Makedo Day
When faced with a huge pile of packaging on Boxing Day, it’s the perfect time to get moving with makedo. So perfect in fact, that we’ve decided to ‘reclaim’ Boxing Day and rename it Makedo Day!!
This year on December 26th, get your clan together and start your own tradition of Makedo Day making. Using a keen eye, gather up all the Christmas wrappings, packaging, decorations and gift cards. These materials are perfect for use in your making session. What do you think you will make?
Maybe you’ll find yourself creating some wonderfully themed decorations for next year. See what you can come up with, creating surprises for when you open the Christmas decorations box in 2010. You will be amazed how addictive the making process is!
Don’t forget to upload some pics of your masterpieces to our website.

Makedo making party mayhem – next one is for the kids
We held the first of our monthly makedo making parties at makedo HQ in Abbotsford, Melbourne. Not sure whether the punch or beer was an influencing factor but creativity was certainly flowing as you can see from some of the quirky characters and creations that emerged.
In January our making mayhem will be all for the kids. We are joining forces with Melbourne’s much-loved Art Factory to hold a making party for kids aged 8+. Sunday January 17th at The Art Factory, 28 Glenferrie Rd, Malvern.
Cost AU$35. Bookings essential. Contact Emma on (03) 9576 0135

Power-making session at The Powerhouse
A couple of weeks back we took up temporary post as designer-in-residence at Sydney’s Powerhouse museum where we work-shopped our little hearts out with the young and young at heart.
Over two days of workshops, 496 hands came up with 115 seriously wonderful and wacky creations.
We want to share 10 of the best with you here.

Makedo The Movie
We found this great little clip made by a makedo customer on the vimeo website. So cool to see what you folk at home are getting up to and it seems it’s not only makedo making but also movie making…
So with one loop of the cycle closed, we’ll keep rolling along and look forward to having you on board for the next revolution.
