A whimsical spin comes to us out of Shanghai, thanks to the creative mind of industrial designer Jiang Qian. His table top fan provides a bladeless hub to which the user attaches their own choice of materials to complete the product.

What would you clip into the fan? The JoinIn sample gallery shows all kinds of materials, from cards and photos to leaves, flowers and some increasingly obscure household objects.
One interesting exploration could be to incorporate POV (Persistence of Vision) into the choice of fan blades. Whether it is swirling printed patterns or bright LED displays, there is scope here for this product to become the foundation for some serious POV creativity.
You can see the JoinIn fan at Jiang Qian’s folio page, and follow recent updates - including some unexpected experiments - on his pictorial blog.
We first saw this at Design Yearbook.
